Hyderabad: With a view to curbing water wastage in the city and conserving water, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) and the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) have jointly launched a mobile app WaLC Alliance to mobilise volunteers to curb the water wastage.Water Board officials say that 90 million litres are being wasted in the city every day due to various reasons including tap leakages, pipeline leakages, excessive domestic usage and other excessive usage of water like vehicle washing and house washing. The wastage per day in Hyderabad can meet the needs of 4 to 5 lakh people every day. Through WaLC mobile app, volunteers are mobilised by and they can mention the number of hours, days of the week and areas preferred so that programmes can be devised to utilise their services to take the message of water conservation to the people. Advertise With Us “Also, our officials along with these volunteers started 1,000-km WaLC survey to find out the pipe leakages and wastage of water in houses as well as excess water usage in houses in Kailash Nagar and this would be taken up in all the circles of the city from next week, he added. Water is wasted due to leakages in pipeline, water wastage by overhead tank, washing vehicles, houses from the water pipes, washing clothes by keeping tap in running mode, using drinking water for gardening purpose, keeping tap open after taking the water.
