AFC will not apologise to Royston King

first_imgThe Alliance For Change (AFC) said it is deeply concerned with the recent developments at City Hall that led Town Clerk Royston King to send a lawyer’s letter to Councillor Sherod Duncan demanding an apology. On March 21, 2018, King through his Attorney Maxwell Edwards accused Duncan of publishing malicious articles in the Guyana Chronicle in relation to the No-Confidence Motion that was brought against him.Town Clerk Royston King“The offending published statements and comments constitute a most callous and disparaging libel of my client done with malice and with the predominant intent to injure my client in his employment… I am further instructed to demand as I hereby do a full, frank and contrite letter of apology you shall cause to be published in the Guyana Chronicle,” the letter stated.“I warn you that failure or omission to comply with these demands will be considered by my client as aggravating and these demands are made with prejudice to my client’s rights to take legal proceedings against you for damages for libel,” the letter concluded. However, the AFC said King needs a better understanding of his role, functions and the reporting structure at City Hall.“He is a servant of the people of Georgetown and the Mayor and City Council, not, as the evidence of his actions and conduct suggest, the other way round,” the party said in a statement. The party added that the demand is “vulgar” and it will strongly resist it.Additionally, they noted that it has been detected that the citizenry no longer has confidence King is capable or willing to execute his functions as Town Clerk.Mayor Patricia Chase Green disallowed the motion of no confidence after King brought legal advice to the Council, claiming that he cannot be disciplined by the M&CC.last_img
