PICTURE SPECIAL: BBC’S KEVIN RETURNS TO HIS ROSSES ROOTS ON NIGHT OF CELEBRATION FOR NAOMH MHUIRE

first_imgBY THE LOWER ROSSES MAYOR: Naomh Muire GAA Club honours – The great Bruce Springsteen song “We take care of our own” was what it was like last night as the Chairman made two inspired choices in Club Guest and Hall of Fame recipient at the Dinner Dance and Awards Night.BBC journalist Kevin Sharkey was the Club Guest and it was great to see Kevin back in full flow remembering days of the past but likewise looking at where it is all heading hopefully.Kevin was deeply involved in the Club as secretary in the early years and although his playing career was… lets say mixed….with Kevin himself jokingly referring to being called ashore in a match in Gweedore…Kevin always gave his all off the field and often took one for the team when other Clubs tried to, at times, scupper our existence. Great seeing you as a deserved Guest of Honour a Caoimhín. Jimmy Doherty was this years Hall of Fame winner and boy what a deserving man. This page is too short to outline Jimmy’s contribution both on the sideline as Bainisteoir and off it in developing the facilities on view today.Jimmy gave the Club his all taking us to Division one, Intermediate Champions, Senior Championship football and acted as Chairman and Club Uachtarán. A humble man who has achieved much in his life and it was great to see Jimmy on the stage last night receiving this great Honour. Although he has returned to the quieter game of golf “far from the madding crowd”…Jimmy is still around us in the oft heated GAA scene.Congratulations Jimmy Doherty and most richly deserved. Two great men belonging to a Great Club…..”we take care of our own” PICTURES BRID SWEENEY  PICTURE SPECIAL: BBC’S KEVIN RETURNS TO HIS ROSSES ROOTS ON NIGHT OF CELEBRATION FOR NAOMH MHUIRE was last modified: February 3rd, 2013 by BrendaShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:PICTURE SPECIAL: BBC’S KEVIN RETURNS TO HIS ROSSES ROOTS ON NIGHT OF CELEBRATION FOR NAOMH MHUIRElast_img
