However, most of the big-name programs will be in action today as football fans around the country gather at their respective stadiums.One of the best traditions lives on in Knoxville with the Vol NavyAccording to Saturday Down South, the “Vol Navy began in the early 1960s, thanks to former Tennessee broadcaster George Mooney.”The Vol Navy started as a way to decrease traffic after leaving games.Unfortunately, one of the boats at the dock caught fire and sank.Boaters coming to the UT game should be aware that docking is reduced by half due to recovery efforts of a 42′ cabin cruiser that sank after burning at the Vol Navy docks at 7am. All 4 occupants escaped without injury. Knox Fire Dept. put the fire out and Sea Tow is recovering. pic.twitter.com/nCpySmvM7Z— TWRA (@tnwildlife) August 31, 2019According to local CBS affiliate WVLT, the fire started after generator was left on all night.Assistant Chief Mark Wilbanks said the owners of the yacht ran the generator all night. A woman onboard thought she smelled smoke. When the woman opened the hatch engine where the generator was located, she saw flames.KFD officials believe the generator was the cause of the fire.Hazmat crews are on the scene to make sure the diesel fuel does not flow into the river. Officials said 200 gallons of diesel was onboard.It’s not a great way to start the college football season. Luckily all of those on board were unharmed.Tennessee and Georgia State kick off from Neyland Stadium at 3:30 p.m. ET on ESPNU.
